CAUSES,SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF SICKLE CELL DISEASE AND ITS EFFECTS
Sickle cell disease, as it is commonly known, is a disease that affects Hemoglobin, a key component of the structure and function of red blood cells.

Sometimes a sickle cell patients suffers from severe pain in various parts of their body as well as the problem of anemia, including other problems such as;
1. Vaso-occlusive crisis: Due to its nature, the sickle cell is very easy to break down as it passes through the small blood vessels.
This condition leads to blockage of blood vessels and thus causes severe pain and inhibits the distribution of oxygen in the blocked parts, thus affecting other organs in the body.
2. Splenic sequestration crisis: At this stage, the spleen becomes infected and becomes larger than normal and also has severe pain.
It collects a lot of blood and breaks down all the red cells that are affected and causes sudden anemia.
3. Aplastic crisis: At this stage, anemia increases and causes, the heart rate to go faster and thus disrupt the process of red blood cell formation or erythropoeisis by invading and destroying its sources. .
4. Hemolytic crisis: At this stage, red blood cells break down more and more and cause severe anemia.
5. Dactylitis: Pain in the palms of the hands and feet often occurs in children aged six months and older.
6. Acute chest syndrome: In this case, the patient experiences fever, severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, and if the patient undergoes a lung x-ray, the test will show abnormal changes (pulmonary infiltrates).
